Seattle Film Commissioner KD Hall Leads “Inside Scoop” on Creative Collaboration and the Future of Film

Seattle, WA — The Seattle Film Commission is pleased to share highlights from its most recent Inside Scoop session, hosted by Commissioner #5, K.D. Hall, who represents Film Schools, Film Programs, and Film Educators on the Commission.

Appointed by Mayor Bruce Harrell in April 2025 for a term extending through April 2028, Hall continues to champion opportunities for film students and emerging filmmakers while advocating for fair wages, equitable pay, and inclusive pathways into the creative industry.

The event took place on October 30, 2025, at 7:00 PM at M5 Creative on the Seattle Center campus. The evening brought together filmmakers, educators, and storytellers for an engaging discussion titled “Creative Collaboration in Film.” The conversation explored how collaboration fuels innovation, how gatekeeping can limit growth, and why inclusivity and access are essential to the future of film in Seattle.

Featured speakers included:

  • Omari Salisbury, Founder of Converge Media, filmmaker, and community leader amplifying Seattle’s cultural stories.

  • Brian Walker, acclaimed writer for Power Book III: Raising Kanan and respected film educator.

  • K.D. Hall, Seattle Film Commissioner #5, producer, and advocate for creative ecosystems.

“Collaboration is essential,” said Omari Salisbury. “It grows stronger when gatekeeping happens outside the process, when we empower local voices and build together.”

Brian Walker reflected on his work for the Power series, noting that “character development allows actors to grow into their roles, it’s what gives a story depth and authenticity.”

“This isn’t just another talk,” added Hall. “It’s an immersive, sensory-based experience that helps creatives feel what collaboration truly looks like, when it works and when it doesn’t.”

The event also featured a live demonstration contrasting unhealthy and healthy collaboration styles, followed by a guided role-play session that invited audience participation. Attendees described the evening as inspiring, insightful, and a valuable contribution to Seattle’s creative film community.
