THE PROJECT
The Washington Office of Superintendent of Public Instruction (OSPI) is the primary agency charged with overseeing public K–12 education in Washington state. Working with the state's 295 public school districts and 6 state-tribal education compact schools, OSPI allocates funding and provides tools, resources, and technical assistance so every student in Washington is provided a high-quality public education.

The Challenge
The Washington Office of Superintendent of Public Instruction created the Building Bridges Program to support a comprehensive engagement and reengagement system. This program includes grants to local partnerships of schools, families, and communities, attendance initiatives, engagement and reengagement, school leadership support, and shared best practices. The efforts are led through recommendations of the Graduation A Team Effort (GATE) Advisory Committee.
OSPI commissioned KD Hall Communications to create newsletters and videos that would effectively communicate the benefits of its Building Bridges program. The challenge was to highlight the program's events, grantees, and initiatives in a way that was informative, engaging, and visually appealing.
Our Solution
Our team began by conducting a thorough discovery session to learn more about the Building Bridges program and its goals. We held regular meetings with the Building Bridges team to plan and develop each issue of the newsletter. We also coordinated interviews with the grantees and produced a video series that highlighted their organization, experiences, and the positive impact of the program.
By partnering with KD Hall Communications, OSPI was able to effectively communicate the benefits of the Building Bridges program to its stakeholders. Both the newsletters and video series received positive feedback from both the OSPI and the grantees. Due to this success, OSPI renewed its partnership with KD Hall Communications for the year 2023.
